Creating Meta Tags
| The main thing to learn about getting your web site recognized on
the search engines is to properly add Meta Tags into the HTML of your
web page. You must do this before you submit your web pages to
the search engines. If you do not have meta tags, your site may not even
get in to the search engines.
Right after <HEAD> and before </HEAD>in your HTML, add your meta tags. You need a title, description and keywords for your meta tags. <HEAD> <title>Your Page Title Goes Here</title> <meta name="description" content="Put a description here of what is on your page"> <meta name="keywords" content="Enter keywords here separated by a comma. You can use more than one word in a keyword"> </HEAD> You want to have the main words that describe your page to be in the title, the description and in the keywords. Then make sure that the same words that appear in the meta tags are in the text of your page as often as possible. Don't try repeating the words over and over though, because the search engines may ban your site. Having your main keyword in the html file name helps, also. Don't use too many different keywords or ones that do not describe the contents of your page! Think about this before you do the meta tags. Choose the most important keywords for the page you are working on. This page is about meta tags, so naturally the most important keyword is "meta tag". I have added the words "meta tag" as often as possible in the text of this page to show you how you can use your keywords in your text.
